Day One - Let the Fun Begin!

As mentioned in my earlier post, day one of the renovation was all about the removal of the back room. Unfortunately however it is far more memorable for the unexpected, and very unwelcome, waterfront views that we gained from our lounge room late in the evening.

The rain set in a few hours after the builders had gone home, and for a while there was no problem. The builders had securely covered the exposed areas of the house with tarps, so there was nothing to worry about, was there?

That question was answered around 9:30pm. The kids were in bed, Bridget was dozing on the lounge and I was half asleep watching TV beside her. The last thing we expected to see was a cascading waterfall flowing freely from the light in our kitchen, but alas that was the scene that so rudely jolted us awake. After fetching a bucket and stemming the flow of water over the kitchen floor I thought I had the problem licked, yes I'd have to get up and empty the bucket every couple of hours if it kept raining, but I could live with that. What I couldn't handle was the scene from the 'B-Grade' horror movie that followed. Water stated literally seeping out of the ceiling cornices and running down all four walls. Had it been red, I would have sworn the house was bleeding, curse you dam builders!
